2019 Drink Station Info and FAQ Page

Over the last eight years, Pig & Whiskey has helped volunteer NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS raise over $250,000 and counting.

We want 2019 to be our best event ever by making it your best event ever. Working a beer/drink station at P&W is fun, fast paced and at times, challenging. But with proper planning and anticipation we will be ready!

We will use this page to update some of the most important and current information regarding this year’s festival. If you’ve made it to this page you’ve gotten our email that included the link to your group’s sign up genius page. Please have your members fill all the spots needed by your group ASAP, so we will know who to expect, and we will know that the booth will be sufficiently staffed.

Below are some FAQ’s. Please read because there are some changes to how things are run this year that are very important.

IS IT VOLUNTEERS HAVE TO WEAR UNIFORMS? Lol. Of course it’s not true. You’re welcome to dress how you feel comfortable and encourage you to wear something that identifies your group. It’s a great conversation starter!

CAN WE PROVIDE LITERATURE AND/OR ADORN OUR BOOTH WITH OUR GROUP’S MESSAGE? This is one that’s changed a little this year. The booths that you’ll be staffing are paid for by the alcohol/beer brands, with the understanding that the message the booths have is their brand (as opposed to your cause). Because of this we ask that you respect that and use an appropriate amount of branding to let event goers know who you are. Your groups are important to us, and without a doubt the brands. Some brands are more particular than others. If put in the position to push the balance back in favor of the brand’s message, please understand that we will. That’s why we recommend shirts to tell people who you are, and your voices to tell people who we are.

CAN WE STILL HAVE A TIP JAR AND COLLECT TIPS? Of course! That’s why you’re doing this right? We suggest making it fun. We’ve seen bells being rung for good tips among other things. Feel free to be creative and enjoy yourselves.

SO HOW MUCH SIGNAGE SHOULD WE BRING? That’s a hard question to answer. But the answer might be less than what you were planning.

CAN WE SELL PROMOTIONAL MATERIAL ? No.

CAN WE GIVE PROMOTIONAL MATERIAL AWAY? Yes.

WHAT IF WE GIVE SOMETHING AWAY WITH A CERTAIN LEVEL OF A DONATION? Now we are in a grey area, which we’ll let the brand you’re serving define. Some are more tolerant than others. We would certainly ask that you didn’t make it look like you’re operating a store, but might suggest offering an item or two to those who donate to your cause at a certain level, if the idea of selling something was something that you had your hearts set on.

WHAT WILL THE WEATHER BE LIKE? Let’s be honest. It could be hot. It could rain. Dress appropriately!

WILL WE GET SOME SORT OF TRAINING? We will go over some basics on your first shift, and will gladly offer brushing up lessons during the festival. We’ll show you what the proper pour looks like, what the tickets look like you will be looking for, as well as some knowledge of the alcohol or beer that you’re serving.

WILL THERE BE A REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE BRAND IN OUR BOOTH? Some booths yes, but not all. MLCC law prohibits brand employees or representatives from serving, even touching their brand. If this happens, please let us know right away, as we have no desire to break Michigan Liquor Laws.

WHO SHOULD WE TELL? DO YOU RECOMMEND A CITIZENS ARREST? First off, we’re not totally familiar with the “citizens arrest” option. You should look for an “ORANGE HAT”. To avoid the next question, we’ll tell you that ORANGE HATS are those that work with us who wear orange hats and are trained to help solve problems or other situations that happen over the weekend.

WILL THE POLICE BE ON SITE? Yes, as always the Ferndale Police will be on site all weekend long. We welcome their presence. If EVER you feel there is a situation that warrants involving a police officer do not hesitate to find one. Our Orange Hats can help find one as well, since the police share our walkie talkie channels all weekend.

DO WE NEED TO BRING SUPPLIES? DO ALL BARTENDERS NEED MUSTACHES? No on both counts. We will supply you with all supplies necessary. Mustaches are not necessary.

WHAT IF WE NEED MORE SUPPLIES? Two words Orange Hats.

WHAT IF WE HAVE EXTRA VOLUNTEERS? We can only allow those volunteers signed up to work behind the table in the tent. If there is a personnel switch, that’s fine, just let us know so we can make a note of his or her name and the time that switch was made. There will still be room for others in your group to be IN the tent if you like, just not behind the table serving.

IS P&W RESPONSIBLE FOR OUR PERSONAL ITEMS? No, they are personal items. You are responsible for your personal items. If they were ours, we’d be responsible. But they’re yours.

WHERE CAN WE GO TO THE BATHROOM? Aside from the rented bathrooms, there is a VIP bathroom in the Loving Touch you are more than welcome to use.

CAN WE DRINK IN THE TENT? NO. This isn’t allowed. Period. Not if you’re working.

WE WILL HAVE MORE INFORMATION TO GO OVER WHEN YOU ARRIVE. WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU.

ONE MORE THING! This festival is successful because people hear about it, because people talk about it. Your weekend here will be even more successful if your followers, friends and family know WHERE YOU ARE! So let them know where you are, what you’re doing. Tell them in advance. Spread the word!
